St. Patty's Day

St. Patty's Day
Originally uploaded by Patty_kins
I know I'm still early, but truth be told I have been dying to show off these stamps. First of all, my brithday is on Saint Patrick's Day, hence the name. Second, it's really hard to find 'St. Patty's Day' stamps. There's alot of 'St. Patrick's Day' stamps, there's several 'St. Paddy's' stamps, but that's not my name. SO.... it's been a search, really a hunt.

Last year, when I was still working at Archivers (on top of my day job), we had a secret laprechaun, which is really like secret santa. Well, my person got me candy and gave me the clover stamp. That's the first time I've seen a stamp w/ Patty on it, which was why she got it. I went ahead and flocked the stamp, it was kinda fun.

I think the whole flocking thing is really depends on the dispenser. The Fun Flock by Stampenous is just open where you're supposed to pour out like you would with embossing powder then push them in to stick. Well, the ones I got from Hobby Lobby has little holes in the dispenser. Like they would dispense cheese for pizza from a jar. That worked out perfectly, you're not wasting alot of flock, and they won't clump together. For something this detailed, that works great. So, I may go back and try that with the other images I've tried before.

Then, in the recent SU catalog they have a jumbo wheel that has that on there, of course then I have to get it. I searched high and low was hoping to get a jumbo cartridge for that color green. But to no avail. Guess they stopped making alot of the colors for jumbos. So, I just did Versamark on these. It's harder than you think, because I've inked the wheel w/ the ink pad, it's hard to try to wheel it the right direction. Compare to the ease of using the wheel with the cartridge inserted. It's much better in terms of outcome and color and making it looked event. Give it a shot.

Baby Bday card

Then I got to thinking, how I don't have any baby birthday's related stamps. Most of my stuff are very 'grown up' or I'd like to think 'chic' stamps. I do have cutie stamps but they're for different occasions.

So, chipboard worked out great. I just put them together and bada bing- bada boom. DONE! I think it's a cute cute type of card... This is for my co-worker's daughter's birthday. Since we're not invited, it's awkard to just offer something, I think. So, I think I'm going to pick up a small beanie baby and go with the card...

Tonight is my 'off' night, so hopefully get some time to play with my new stamps. I also suspect that one of my order came in... so hopefully, that's the case and I'll have new stuff to play with. Yipee!

Happy Stamp day!

Last night we had a very long meal.... though it was good, the service took FOREVER!!! So, I was already tired and didn't get a chance to unwind, already hungry, so having to wait made me a very unhappy camper.

But what made last night nice was my stamp orders came in! Wohoo... I tell ya, little things in life really makes a difference.

I opened my box, I glared and stared and mix and match. Then crack open the packages of stamps and started to play with them. Man, some people's creativity is just off the roof and totally understand the awesome outcome I saw on people's blogs. Because the stamps themselves lends to it. I know I said it many of times, I need stamps like I need a hole in my head, but you know, it really made me happy last night.

The ones showcased on the cards aren't the stamps I got, I got this set Monday, and just now posted something about them. These are pretty awesome stamps, I swear, I *heart* MFT so much that it's not even funny. I wish they're in the same town I am so I can just drive over and buy direct. But having a happy mail day is good too.

So, unfortch, tonight I have a dance class to teach (and secretly hope that people won't show up again, so I can go take a crochet class), and have skating tonight. So, no playing with stamps... which sucks because if the muse/mood strike, you kinda want to take advantage of that... Hmm... we'll have to do something about that.

So, I was playing around and can't find a good stamp to go to w/ the 'theme', which is usually because I was lost in my mood. That usually led to lost in theme. Anyway, I got the build-a-brad and just had so much fun making those. I wish they have different sizes.

Anyway, not much to report until my new order comes in... otherwise just hangin'... have a great day.

Blue Bday

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was nice and relaxing on top of the nice weather we had. Today, luckily had gone back to gloomy as I am stuck in my office. HA!

Anyway, so, got some cards done. Lately my muse is not around as much, so I end up wasting alot of time to either look at my paper and stuff and hope something will jump out at me. Or cleaning some here and there in hope that I can find something to make.

So, here's one that's easy to do. I bought this set off of eBay, who is my friend on stuff that are hard to find or not easily available. I buy alot of out of print books from there, and some 3rd tier hostess SU sets from there too. Usually, if I can hold off for a little while, they all pop up on there.

Anyway, that said, I don't have anybody in mind while making this. So, it might go to a pile... we'll see. :)

Last night I was so bad... I saw the Imaginisce's A Shore Thing line, and went crazy of course. You know how you saw something, and became obesessed and then you want to have it all. Doesn't matter that you don't need it. I mean, buttons I don't need any buttons, or I don't need more flowers... but man... just can't help myself. Plus the penguins are so darn cute... it's a MUST HAVE.

So, my other friend from the dance world had given birth to her baby boy right before Vday. And what a love-joy that is. I wish I can go visit soon, but things are just hectic around here. Mostly life and this work thing really takes up more time than I like... haha. Well, also what feeds my addiction to my spending on crafts. But, hopefully, I'll get to meet him soon. Instead, I made this card and mailed it... hope it survive the mean postal machines.

Well, last night drove 44 miles up to Woodlands to my stamp group... that's a long ass drive, but I only make it once a month or so... sometimes not even that. Plus, that gives me an excuse to go to the other big scrapbook store to look at what's new.

Sadly and surprisingly, I walked out without buying anything. I'm shocked... I mean, I usually drop $XX at that place... I saw some stuff that are neat but didn't feel like buying anything... stunned, I tell you.

Anyway, the group was good, not many people showed up, but my usual 2 friends were there, so that's ok. I think since the store I used to hang at is closed, all of us just kinda went our own way. Some people carried on to having a group and some just dropped off. Since I'm on the 'outer' loop from them, I'm usually the last to hear about those things. Plus, I work and they are mostly retired... so that's a disadvantage on my part.

Anyhoo, did some good projects, also zipped out of there in an hour and a half. Usually takes 2 hours to do the projects. But, the lady's house is the first one on the subdivision, there's no light and out in literally BFE, so I wanted to go home as soon as possible. Even then didn't get home until 9p. But was inspired to do more stuff... so that's good. Ordered more stamps.... I need stamps like I need a hole in my head... go figure.

So... this card, I made for my HS friend Laura who just gave birth to her son not too long ago. Their kid's name is Benjamin Patrick, which Patrick is the father's name. But, the whole Benjamin Patrick sounded very old skool. I like Ben or Bennie... and the jets. LOL.

Green & Purple Swap

Green & Purple
Originally uploaded by Patty_kins

It's rare that I have a day off and my hub doesn't. That usually doesn't happen that way. But, if the bank is not working, neither are we... I think with one or two exception.

But, let me tell you, taking my time to make cards was a nice. Play around w/ the paper and then watch my recorded TV shows. Plus it was a good day outside... that's so nice just being able to do that.

Anyway, I came back from the doctor's and they think that I may have CTS, so I'm wearing a wrist spline. It's like an alien arm on me... geesh... hope this will go away soon. Whatever it is.

I'm itching to go shopping, but kinda didn't want to due to my weight. I know, that's not a legit reason, and I'm pretty sure Stacy & Clinton from WNTW would also say that is not an excuse. But then again, they are the type that would tell you to get your jeans hemmed.

I'm one of the 'lucky' ones that buy clothes off the rack and wear as is. I don't like to take things to hem due to many unfortunate incidents. I think the only success was my wedding dress and I did pay an arm and a leg for that. So, needless to say, taking my jeans to get altered seems very indulgent.

Shoes however, you know that's why women has so many pairs of shoes. Doesn't matter what size you are up top, your feet stays where they are... While I do not have a shoe fetish, I can appreciate a good pair of shoes. So, that quote: ' If the shoe fits, buy them in different color.' is a great theory and rule to live by.

Anyway, let's talk about the card, the more shopping I talk about the more I feel like some gift cards are burning a hole in my purse. Ok, card.... I was playing around w/ the black DP, it's neat, w/ the Swirl embossed, it makes the flowers really looked like it's floating in the air. Though, not sure about putting this lovely girl in front of it doing much for me. But it sure does make her POP. I was hoping it come off as a little window effect, but what's in my head is easier and less practical than reality.

Ok... so this is the last of the Vday cards... I promise, promise...

Actually, this morning I realized I had made some Vday card from last year that I didn't send out. This year, I've sent most of them out already, but still have some left overs... so now I have a bunch of leftovers... hmm...

I also got a nudge from my friend Michelle, to make some cards for sale... so I need to get crackin' on those. As well as my friend Gloria who asked me to make her some generic Thank You notes. It's funny because she's very particular... you can't have pink anywhere on there, and it has to be somewhat femininie. So, I'll be working on that alot. (where is my embossing powder, there'll be a ton of that)

Anyway, this is as I say the last Vday card... I bought this stamp when I was single and I often remember that when I see it. Of course, now that the situation had change, I love to dedicated that to my single friends.... don't give up hope yet.

Pink & Green themed

Pink & Green Swap

So, this is a card I did for my Pink & Green swap... I got this set from Amanda Blu that totally in love with. So much so that I bought the rest of the set... paper stack, ribbon, flowers, brads.... if they have an outfit, I would've done it too.

Anyway, this was a card, as I said done for a swap. It's harder to make a pink & green combo than I was able to before... now I'm having to face the decision of which pink to which green. There's all these hues... decisions, decisions.

Anyway, I think this chickie is very much having her drink and drank it too. Totally wish I can be her sometimes... but then thinking of all the nice jewlery and stuff drenched in alcohol, I take a second thought.

Sorry, short post, need to hop back to work.

The penguins are from CC Designs, I know they just had a new release this past weekend. I believe it's a money set. It's darling but since I'm not really a monkey person, I really don't see myself purchasing them. It's just one of those things.

This past weekend had been crazy but I also found some really neat flock, yay clearence at Hobby Lobby. So, I'll be playing w/ them and showing you what I came up with.

Other than that... my week 'should' calm down, because unlike last week, full of birthdays, Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, Chinese New Year... etc.

This week is more like skate and meeting, another bday dinner, more skating, private lessons 2 nights in a row... so wish me luck, hopefully I can make at least 2 baby cards for my 2 friends who are having boys. One is already here but since she lives in Maryland, I'm just taking my time. The other is here local but don't know when she's going in, should be any day now... whew!

Sweetie box

I made this for a swap that I'm in. The theme is Vday sweet treat. So, I was pulling my hair out trying to think of something to make. I've done all the cards, none of which I think it's a good selection.... Sad that I'm picky about my own stuff. But, anyway... I was at the Container Store and saw this neat box that you pull and it'll flatten. Co-incidently, I came across this link when I was browsing around for something else. Totally what I was thinking about...

So, here's the final product. The idea is to put some Kisses in the box and it'd be pretty and all. Problem is, how the heck am I going mail it? I can flatten the box and then mail the chocolate, luckily, weather across the country will prevent the chocolate from melting. But.... as you can see where I'm going with this... it's not going to be pretty.

Then, I was thinking, you know instead of candy, maybe I can mail her some blog candy that I've been saving up for the next thing. Maybe that'll work too. Well, I can't decide and have to seriously give it some thought because it's due in the mail by tomorrow. Oops.

Here's the back of the box:

So, with this saying on the back, I HAVE TO mail my swap partner some chocolate. Hmm....

Well, just so you know, the tutorial get you started but doesn't finish off very well. I think because they want you to buy the template from the creator. But, I did recall from Container Store how that works, so I just finished it by interlocking the bottom of the box to make it a box.

I have to say, it is pretty neat. Go check it out.

Chinese New Year 2

CNY 08
Originally uploaded by Patty_kins
Well, this is a tad more festive for me... I find it so appealing that just having red and grey as main focus, it just pops right off the card. The card said Happy New Year, phonetically: Kung Hey Fat Choi. I truly translate to wishing you making lots of money this coming year. I guess wishing you a prosperous year will do too. As time pass, it just easier to tell my non-Asian friends that it means Happy [Chinese] New Year.

The flowers on here are really Japanese's Cherry Blossom, which is a Japanese signature flower. But in reality, for Chinese New year, it should be Peach Blossom (It's light pink than Cherry Blossom), Quince (it's a tad more thorny than Cherry Blossom), or Pussy Willow for the New Year. Alot of people bring Narcissus Lily when they visit each other as well. They all symbolizes good luck in some way.

I remember my dad would go to the New Year Market, which is like a flea market but instead of selling you old used things, they sell you new stuff. From knick knacks to flowers to things you need to bring in the new year. And one of the things he does is to get the Peach Blossom for decoration. He would wait till the last day of the market, usually the night before Chinese New Year and try to get it at a discount.... Yep, that's what my dad does.

I do miss the little things like that, and have missed the holiday itself. The festivities, going to people's housing, and getting red envelope (which is where I get money from relatives). My hub now gets to take part in it, and it's weird that people gave him a red envelope, he's like what am I doing with this... until he realize there's cash inside. Yeah, I'm all about that too, especially when I was younger, that's so cool people just give you money. Of course, I didn't realize on the flip side, my parents are also giving money to the other people's kids. So, it's really a trade off. Some deals better than others, of course, but hey fun for me. XD

Anyway, this is a card I'm mailing to Seattle for my friend who recently lost her father. Hope this will cheer her up.

Cake

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year
Originally uploaded by Patty_kins
Well, technically, today is Fat Tuesday, but since I don't have any Mardi Gras card or color themed I will post the few Chinese New Year cards I have...

This is very matching... The vellum in the background was designed by my friend Catherine who passed 2 years ago. She was very talented lady. Also very much into the Asian cultures which led to her success to owning her own company along w/ her husband. That said, the company is no more, and also a lost for the Houston Rubber Stamp community.

Anyway, she designed these Kois swimming, and I thought how appropriate is to to have the saying. The saying phonetically is: Yu Yee Gut Cheung, which means, may all your wish comes true and in more folds [than intended]. But the word Yu which is the first word you see there, also sounded like Chinese word for Fish. So, that's why I thought it was appropriate. They have alot of words that sounds like something else, and then they became symbol for the saying. Like when I was little, I never tell my parents that I want to go buy books in Chinese because the word book sounds like lose as in gambling. So, I was not allowed to say that. Or, you never give someone a clock for present because it sounds like you're sending them off (as in when someone passes), so they're very much into the multi-meaning stuff.

While this is a common symbol to have fish to go along it, not sure how common it is to have koi. I'll have to look that up. Hope you enjoy it anyway.

Happy Birthday to DH

D's bday invite
Originally uploaded by Patty_kins
So, today is DH's bday. It's hard because I've made these a month ago and have been dying to show everyone, but can't because he reads this blog too. So, I had to keep it under wraps for a long time.

Finally, we had the party last Saturday and the cat was let out of the bag. I had ordered a cupcake cake to shape like the iPod too. He's a really big Apple fan, so it is only appropriate to have it shape like an iPod.

What you don't have an idea is how hard to get everyone's address to mail them the invite. Well, for our friends, that's easy, because I've known them for so long that I know their addresses. His family I had to ask his mom to get everyone's info. Then, his friends I have to sneak around and ask them for their addresses and one of them came back.

Anyway, it went off without a hitch, tons of food leftover (and thank goodness to the Super Bowl party the next day). =D I think he had a good time... trust me, there's alot of running around and thank goodness to my friends who are awesome people that helped me picked up food along the way to the party. Otherwise I would've had to clone myself to get all that done.
